Directions
1. Take a large skillet and place ground beef in it. Now, diced the onion and put it over medium heat.
2. Cook the beef until it begins to turn brown and constantly stir while cooking. As the beef cooks, break it into small pieces with the help of a cooking spoon. The smaller the pieces, the better it would be.
3. Now, add green pepper and garlic and for two minutes cook by stirring. After that, pour one cup of water.
4. Bring this beef mixture to a simmer. Make sure to scrape the base of the pan by using the cooking spoon to dissolve the browned bits.
5. Next, stir in all the sauces and flavorings, i.e., ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, brown sugar, and black pepper. Afterward, pour in the last cup of water.
6. Bring this beef mixture to a simmer again. Then reduce the flame to low heat. For 30-45 minutes, continue to simmer or cook until most of the liquid from the meat mixture has evaporated.
7. This prepared sloppy joe concoction should be thick and tender. Lastly, taste the mixture and adjust the seasonings.
8. Serve hot on buns or soft rolls.
RECIPE NOTES:
1. Substitute ground beef with ground chicken if you like.
2. To make beef mixture spicier, add ¾ teaspoon chili powder and ¼ teaspoon red chili flakes.
3. Do not cook too much that it reduces the sauce; otherwise, it will give you a dry sloppy jow mixture.
4. To make the sandwich more sumptuous, toast the buns by drizzling vegetable oil in a pan and toast it for a few minutes.
5. In place of ketchup, you can add your favorite barbeque sauce.
6. Sloppy joe can be made without ketchup; you can use tomato paste instead.
7. You can also slice up some vegetables and rip open a bag of chips to eat with a sloppy joe sandwich.
